Presenter Information

Chad Whited, MD
Dr. Whited is a board-certified otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon, and currently the only fellowship-trained laryngologist in Austin, TX. He uses the most advanced equipment to perform numerous procedures, i.e. vocal fold injections, biopsies, airway evaluations in-office. He also manages laryngeal cancers using microscopes and lasers, ultimately optimizing patient outcomes. Dr. Whited works very closely with patients, speech pathologist, and patients in central and south Austin. He completed medical school at UT Medical School at Houston, residency at Duke University Medical Center, and fellowship at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Thomas Schlieve, DDS, MD, FACS
Dr. Schlieve is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with advanced fellowship training in Oral/Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery. He is currently the Graduate Program director for the Parkland/UT Southwestern Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency training program. His clinical practice focuses on the surgical treatment of diseases of the head and neck including oral cancers, benign and malignant jaw tumors, salivary gland tumors, and osteonecrosis of the jaw. Dr. Schlieve obtained his undergraduate education with the University of Wisconsin, completing a B.S. in biology. Following his undergraduate studies, he was educated in both dentistry (at Marquette University School of Dentistry) and medicine (at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport School of Medicine). Dr. Schlieve completed a four year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and internship in General Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center before continuing his training in an accredited Oral/Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery Fellowship program at the University of Tennessee Medical Center and Cancer Institute. Dr. Schlieve has lectured both nationally and internationally. He is a board examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and serves on the special committee for oncology and reconstructive surgery. He has authored multiple scientific articles and text book chapters in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and participates in community-wide outreach efforts to raise awareness of oral cancers.

Jun Wang, PhD
Dr. Wang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and in the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his PhD in Computer Science with a cross training in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2011. He was an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Texas at Dallas before joining UT last summer. His research focuses on speech motor control, dysarthric speech recognition and analysis, and assistive speech and neural technologies. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the University of Texas System, and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation.

Stacie Jempty, MA, CCC-SLP
Stacie is the speech language pathologist and clinical manager for rehabilitation services at Ascension Seton in Austin, TX. She leads a large department of physical, occupational, and speech clinicians, and is responsible for the management of direct reports, productivity, budget, program development, interdisciplinary teamwork, and strategic planning. Prior to her leadership role, Stacie served as a committed speech pathologist at Ascension Seton for 8 years. She specializes in adult acute care speech-language, and swallow evaluation and treatment, laryngectomy evaluation and treatment both in/outpatient, adult voice outpatient, transgender voice modification, lymphedema. Stacie earned her Masters of Arts in Speech Language Pathology at University of Florida.

Itzy Otterbein, MS, CCC-SLP
Elizabeth (Itzy) is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist who graduated from New York University with a Masters of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She is a practicing clinician with Ascension Seton in Austin, Tx. She has experience in acute care, outpatient, and skilled nursing facilities. Over the past two years, she specialized in the rehabilitation of H&N Ca and voice patients at the Seton Northwest Outpatient Clinic. Itzy attended the post-laryngectomy voice restoration courses through both Atos and Inhealth, as well as Walt Fritz's Myofascial Release for Neck/Voice/Swallowing Disorders Seminar. She has experience with a variety of disorders and treatments but is passionate about the H&N Ca field and loves being an advocate for her patients. She enjoys working at Seton where she is given the time and resources necessary to connect with her patient and their families which ensures a whole-person approach to treatment.

Jake is a young cancer survivor based in Australia. He is passionate about sports nutrition, healthy plant-based living, and mental health awareness. His goal is to teach and inspire others by sharing his survivorship story.
